Looking for some healthy, homemade, guilt-free appetizers, then these baked plantain chips should definitely be in your to-try-list. They have only half the fat of typical potato chips!!!!
These salty, crunchy chips are so easy to make, perfect for after-school snacks, and also intriguing in place of potato or tortilla chips when served with all kinds of dips.
Picking the right plantain– This is totally based on your palate but in my opinion, the greener the better. If you pick the ripe yellowish ones, your chips would be yellow and sweet in taste.
To make these chips you will need,
2 large Plantains
1-2 tbsp melted coconut oil
1/4 th tsp sea salt and
1 to 2 pinches of pepper flakes or as per taste
To get started,
Set the oven on 350 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Peel the plantain after cutting the ends.
Slice them into consistent diagonal slices.
Toss the slices with coconut oil, salt and pepper and lay them on the baking sheet.
Bake for 20-25 mins till the ends of the slices start to brown. This time could be shorter or longer depending on the oven so keep an eye after 10-15 mins.Store the chips in air-tight containers or ziplock bags for 3-4 days.
